Shame On Me!
I have the ability to work from home when I would like, to a point, and chose to do so yesterday as it was mostly a day of conference calls, so it doesn't matter if I am at my desk at home or in the office. Today was a full day and I planned on being in the office. Funny how we seem to think we really get to make plans and they always stick huh!
Anyway, Emmy's cough ramped up pretty well last night, and it became full blown very quickly. This morning she couldn't go more than a few seconds without coughing so we decided she needed to stay home, she wouldn't have made it at school so it was a good call. Problem is, Jon couldn't stay home because he had back to back stuff to do before heading out to a big meeting.
I sighed heavily for emphasis, said I would stay home, and he went to work.
Emmy and I did fine today, but the sudden change of plans this morning kind of made me poopy...like anyone could help it, but still, I was cranky. I also get admittedly more tense when Emmy's yuck rears it's ugly head, maybe it's the PTSD from her hospitalization at 3 years old, I am just never at ease when she is like this. The idea of not having help with it all tonight was overwhelming (boo hoo, I know), so add that to my existing crankiness and you have one abrupt, less than affectionate red- head. Oh, tack on a orthodontist appointment that was long overdue and we had to bring Coughy McCougherton with us...not her fault at all, just not ideal to have her running around when she is struggling.
As I am heading out with the girls to the ortho appointment, Jon comes over to hug me and I give him a sideways hug, tell him I have to go and we'll talk later. Then I come home and the conviction sets in.
Such waste of this day to have been cranky for as long as I was, and I definitely didn't need to be so "blech" that I would give a half hearted hug...that's not how we "roll" in our house when it comes to hugs.
All this to say that I was a sucky crabby pants today and I hope my husband reads this and knows that I am sorry and I love him very much!
Can't wait for the meds to kick in...soon honey, soon!

Squirrel Stuff
Can I just say that I don't mind squirrels at all...in fact they are fun to watch frolicking in the yard and jumping from tree branch to tree branch. What I DO mind is when they are in my house, or rather the crawl spaces in our attic bedroom. We had an issue last year that involved a pregnant squirrel building a nest in our attic, which became a home for her three newborn babies, two of which were scooped with a long handled pool net out of a hole in our siding. The mother squirrel was very determined to get in to our house to nest and went as far as finding a small corner of our aluminum siding that was pulled back just enough for her to crawl in between (the house and the siding mind you) to chew a hole near the peak of our house in order to get in. Again, the mother and two of her babies were gently "escorted" (alive) from our attic, the access point was boarded up, and the drama was over.
Fast forward to today.
Jon, Madison and Emerson decided to go around the lake and I figured I would enjoy some quiet time watching trashy TV, when I heard the scuffling, gnawing, scratching sounds of an intruder in the attic. This same sound nearly drove me to the brink of insanity last year, so hearing it today sent me into a whirl of post traumatic stress disorder.
I was tormented by the sounds for a full hour before Jon got home, when of course the sounds stopped and Jon gave me the "you are losing it" look. S ee, since our last squirrel incident we had our house re-sided, quite beautifully (Thank you, CitySide Exteriors) if I may add, but it is sealed up tight as a drum, so the idea of how the squirrel gained access was baffling me.
After about a half an hour the noise started again and this time Jon heard it too. He went upstairs with a club like stick and a garbage bag...squirrel warfare tools. The noise stopped and there was no sign of the critter in the attic. Half an hour later, more noises, Jon investigated and SAW it with what he thought was a baby squirrel in it's mouth.
My blood pressure shot through the roof.
I suggested he visit our neighbor to see if perhaps he still owned a BB gun...which illustrates how crazy this was making me...scary. Anyway, Jon instead went outside to see if he could find the access point because he was baffled too. He found it and it happened to be the ONE place that was not recently covered with fresh, crisp, new, white siding.
There is a spot just under the overhang of the roof near a gutter, just big enough for an extremely motivated squirrel to fit through. UGH!
Jon came running in the house to tell me that the squirrel just came out, and to watch the spot until he could get something to fill the hole once and for all. I have never stared so closely at a spot. Anyway, Jon came back with chicken wire (which as I type it sounds pretty ghetto) when I suggested tucking a brick into the space, which is heavy enough that a squirrel cannot move or chew through, which seemed to do the trick, oh and Jon put some chicken wire in there too, just for good measure.Jon also said the squirrel looked pretty fat, which I am hoping means she hasn't delivered yet.
Please let it be that she has not delivered yet, please.
All this to say, I think that there is a conspiracy among the squirrels in our neighborhood, and I have never been so certain that I absolutely need to refill my anti-anxiety medication.

Compassion International
We received the sponsorship packet for our second child through Compassion International in the mail today...Yay!
I found Ishikha, our first sponsored child who lives in India, on the Compassion site and debated whether or not to sponsor a child, but walked away without doing anything. I had a dream about her that night (for real) and went back the next morning to see if she was still available to sponsor...she was, and I was thrilled!
A similar thing happened with Shradha, our second sponsored child, who also lives in India.
I saw Shradha online when I went looking at the site as a new member; her sweet smile grabbed a hold of me and that was it, I chose her too! Later that night Emerson came to the living room to read us the story she had just written, whose main character had a name that was oddly very close to Shradha. Strange how these nudges happen isn't it!
I think I am supposed to do something more though.
I have been inexplicably "restless" lately and for the first time in my life considered a mission trip, out of the blue. This is huge for me because anyone that knows me knows that extreme heat with no air conditioning and being without creature comforts is one of the least appealing things I could think of...I don't usually do well in the absence of both.
Who knows, maybe my mission isn't India or somewhere across the globe, maybe it's in Georgia, I guess I will wait and see. I think God will consider the whole red-head/sunburn thing somewhere in his equation too. Although maybe there is no sunburn when you are on a true mission for God? God created the sun, I am quite certain He could prevent it from stopping someone fair skinned like me from doing His work. Anyway, I digress.
Then it occurred to me that way down at the bottom of my blog is a quote, whose author is unknown to me, but that has summed up all the things that God has been working on in my heart lately...
"God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called".

Pray if you will, I think my heart is in the early stages of being "qualified" for something and might just be in for a new journey down the road.

What if the sponsorship of a child today will eliminate the need for International Justice Mission's help in the future??
It would be super fun if you wanted to join us in sponsoring a child too, in fact I have added a special icon to the blog that makes it ever so easy to get started! ;)

Our Selah Trip to Tennessee
This song has become a favorite of ours because it represents the great peace God gives us during the good and the bad.
So beautiful and so true!

Amy Perry and Todd Smith.
For those of you that have visited the Bring The Rain blog on the right side of ours, this is a song that Angie Smith wrote about their daughter Audrey Caroline, who lived just 2 1/2 hours.
Add the beautiful vocals of Amy Perry and Todd Smith (Audrey's Dad) and you can't help but be moved.
Kate is one of Todd and Angie's four girls and she needed to join daddy on stage...it was adorable!
Amy singing "Amazing Grace", with the help of Todd of course.
If only I could sing like her...
